And now for something a little different… Zac and I heard through IanVisits blog that the heroine of the Libyan conflict, the Type 42 Destroyer, HMS Liverpool would be putting into port in Docklands for a grand open day that anyone could attend. We went along (since it was her last trip prior to decommissioning), and took some video and photographs of what was a thoroughly interesting day.

Hot off the video-press, the conclusion of Day 2 of our trip to Cornwall. 190 miles, tiny & slow roads, but a few nice things to see along the way. It’s just a shame that the weather was so terrible.

It’s been a while coming, but, another video finally has been completed! Only about 3-4 more to go to round out this trip!  Merry Christmas everyone, and we hope you enjoy the show.

After getting to Bournemouth and being served a hearty meal of bacon, we prepped the car (with gadgets ranging from iPhone’s to inverters) and left on our 150 mile journey into the wilds of Dartmoor where we’d be making camp for the night at the bottom of a track labelled “Unsuitable for motors”. This is the longest video we’ve released in a while, and took me literally days of editing and re-editing; hopefully you’ll all enjoy it. :) Day 2 and Day 3 videos are being edited too and should be up in the next few weeks.

The traffic on the way to Dartmoor was absolute murder, as you’ll see from the time-stamps that appear in the bottom left of the screen. Watch in HD for best results!

In other news, Zac took a trip back to his homeland, and while there went on an impromptu trip with a friend in a Subaru Impreza… 150km or so of real dirt lane offroading. In true OneLastTrip fashion, the camera was packed and I have about 3 hours of footage to cut down to a couple of videos, so look out for those too… they’re pretty awesome.

After a successful night of sleep, we embark upon a riveting journey in the lap of absolute luxury, taking some of the finest transport known to man: a South West Train’s train.

Woo, new video post; the night before leaving we packed all our stuff, chose our tools and headed to Zac’s house (closer by time to commute to Waterloo):

There was a time when we’d take 6kg of tools with us on each trip, and generally suffer the consequences of being barely able to lift our bags in return. As we mentioned last month in a vlog, we decided that we’d up the ante a little and remove some of the safety nets that we’d been taking with us; namely the Toughbook and most of the tools. We thought long and hard about exactly how we’d put a restriction in place that would be balanced depending on how long the trip was while still maintaining a level of difficulty due to the restriction. What we came up with was this:

So our formula for calculating max points (if you didn’t watch the video), is:

P=4(\frac{d}{c}pMax)

I put up a quick video explaining why we haven’t posted much since getting back from our trip. The main reason, is that my computer ate itself; the replacement I borrowed from work decided to eat all the footage. I’ve recovered most (except for some planning footage) from the SD cards, so we’re ready to rock and roll. Expect updates to be coming soon!

As seems to be the way we do things around here, at T-1.5 days from leaving for the trip, we finally sat down to do planning, buy maps, and figure out how we wanted to shape OneLastTrip. This somehow included calculus… we decided that we’d enact the points system for this trip, and as I was editing this video, the answer to the equation popped into my head; we’ll blog about that later. Check out the nuclear powered turtle video from a few years back too.

We leave Friday at 9:25, so expect only tweets from that point onward at http://www.twitter.com/onelasttrip.

We’ve been vlogging again, as you can see, and have another trip planned for the 7th-10th October starting in Bournemouth. We need ideas though, a goal for the trip, as opposed to just driving a route; we’ve done lots of research but haven’t yet found anything that would be super awesome, so if you’ve got ideas, then let us know…
